A murder investigation has been launched in Newham following the death of a 74-year-old woman.
Police were called at 12:36hrs on Tuesday, 17 February, to reports of a death. Officers who arrived first at the scene attempted to provide first aid, but the woman was sadly pronounced dead.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
The investigation is ongoing as officers work to establish the full circumstances.

What should have been a normal school day ended with two teachers in hospital.

Police were called to Fir Vale School on Owler Lane shortly after midday on Thursday (26 February 2026) following reports of a fight involving several students.

During the disturbance, two members of staff were injured and taken to hospital. Officers remained on site to support the school and ensure pupils were safe.

Parents are now being urged to speak to their children about the seriousness of the incident. Police are asking anyone who witnessed what happened, or recorded footage, to contact 101 quoting incident number 303 of 26 February 2026.
